Graduate Assistant for the CCECC, Director of Career Development

Position Description

The CCECC Graduate Assistant is an integral component the Career Development aspect of the Center’s mission. This position will prepare Averett, DCC, and PCC students to become more competitive for internships and career readiness; assist with the new programmatic initiatives that require our Director of Career Development to have assistance in performing those responsibilities.

The CCECC Career Development Graduate Assistant will be supervised by the Director of Career Development.

This position is a part-time administrative position open to those who are in the process of enrolling in a graduate degree program at Averett University or have recently been accepted to a graduate program at the University. Enrollment in one of Averett University’s business or education graduate programs is a requirement of this position.

Graduate Assistants will be provided a compensation package that includes a salary stipend, a stipend for room and board, and graduate program tuition remission.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with special attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to make a favorable impression on community organizations, employers, students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Primary Responsibilities

The Career Development Graduate Assistant works as part of the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness (CCECC) team in educating students regarding career goals and individual professional development. The Career Development Assistant will provide meaningful programming, resources, and individualized sessions to Averett University’s student body.

  • The G.A. will research best practices employed by other academic institutions as they relate to resources, programming, and off-campus opportunities.
  • Assist the Director of Career Development by providing individualized career advising for students to include: résumé review, career exploration, mock interviews, interview strategy, and job search techniques.
  • Revise current career development resources and develop an additional collection of career development resources to be used by current students and alumni, particularly the G.A. will develop a Career Development Guide that contains information about resumes, interviewing, cover letter design, as well as building digital portfolios. This guide will be printed and made available to students at Averett, DCC, and PCC.
  • Assist the Director of Career Development in the creation, coordination, and delivery of a series of career education programming based on the university’s Career Development Matrix. Programming will be for both the traditional student base and for the Graduate and Professional Studies student base.
  • Assist the Director of Career Development in marketing events and programs by creating and distributing marketing materials via student newsletter, faculty/staff newsletter, advertising flyers, and social media posts.
  • Assist the Director of Career Development with tracking, assessing, and reporting on career outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other university departments to deliver career development programs.
  • Monitors and responds to student inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts

The position requires occasional weekend and evening work. Occasional conference travel is also required. Work is typically performed in an office, in the community at partner sites, and at retreat sites.
