Maintenance Technician

Position Description

This position provides hands-on assistance in the maintenance of Averett’s Facilities in Danville so that the University’s mission can be fulfilled in a clean, safe environment that supports learning and growth.

The purpose of this job is to help ensure client satisfaction by performing assigned tasks related to general facility maintenance. In addition, this job requires that the employee move furniture and set up classrooms and events, as well as do project work.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • 3-5 years of institutional/commercial facility experience
  • Work “on-call” for after-hours emergency situations (rotating schedule)
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and to follow product label instructions
  • Clean and professional appearance
  • Good work ethic
  • Team player with positive attitude and professional conduct

Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Knowledge of building maintenance and ability to make repairs to include but not limited to:
  • Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Painting, Etc.
  • Ability to work on commercial kitchen equipment and refrigeration equipment is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Follow general facility maintenance policies and procedures
  • Able to follow directions to complete assigned tasks independently and in a timely manner
  • Report to work on time, and be prepared to work your full shift
  • Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, emergencies and energy use
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work station
  • Report repairs needed as discovered
  • Move furniture and other items and set up for activities/events, as assigned by supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Travel and ADA-related requirements.

  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds; position may require periods of arduous physical activity
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; possess good manual dexterity, and be willing to perform physical work as assigned to include bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling
  • Work in an environment that can be varying in temperature and weather conditions. May be exposed to fumes, dust and airborne particles and allergens, moving mechanical parts and vibrations, and high noise levels
  • Some travel may be required within Danville area, between campus locations in company vehicle
