Music Department to Hold Spring Concert

singers1The Averett University music department will present its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. in Pritchett Auditorium in the Violet T. Frith Fine Arts Center (150 Mountain View Ave.). The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the Averett Singers, the Averett Ringers and the inaugural concert performance of the AU Cougar Band. The Averett Ringers, under the direction of Tim Navis, adjunct music professor, will showcase challenging handbell techniques. The Averett Singers, under the direction of Dr. Anne Lewis, professor of music and musical theatre, and accompanied by Navis, will present sacred and popular songs reflecting on the need for peace in the midst of conflict, including Mozart’s “Aeterna pax” and “From a Distance.” The AU Cougar Band, under the direction of Dr. Janet Phillips, associate professor of music, will perform works with folk music influences, Hollywood Milestones and introduce a guest performer for More Cowbell.
