Founded in 1859 as a school for young women, Averett grew to become a fully accredited, co-educational, four-year college that today enrolls more than 1500 students from 26 states and 24 countries. It offers more than 30 undergraduate majors, minors and special programs and three master’s programs. Both traditional and adult students make up a diverse student body, including a large international enrollment. Averett University invites applications at its Main Campus in Danville, Virginia for a faculty position in the Physical Sciences Department to teach introductory and upper-level Chemistry courses starting in the Fall of 2022.

Successful candidates will have a broad academic background in chemistry, show evidence of success in teaching, and will be committed to the liberal arts education. Depending on the candidate’s expertise, teaching responsibilities could includecollege chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, and physical chemistry or analytical chemistry courses. The position could also include supervising undergraduate research projects.

In addition to supporting the major in Chemistry, courses support other programs in the Biological and Health Sciences.

A strong commitment to working with undergraduates and to student success is essential. Other responsibilities include student advising, committee work and assistance in student recruiting.

A doctoral degree or ABD status in chemistry or a closely related field is strongly preferred, but exceptional master’s level candidates with teaching expertise may be considered.
