Simulation Technologist

Position Description

Under the direction of the Simulation Coordinator and the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Programs, provide technical assistance for simulation labs. Configure, operate, and maintain networked simulation computers and audiovisual equipment.  Troubleshoot technical and equipment issues, collaborating with nursing faculty, staff, and vendor contacts to quickly resolve problems. Provide technical assistance as needed with simulation labs and requests outside normal working hours – i.e. student visits, community partner education, etc.  Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work as a team with all faculty and staff with optimal student success in mind.

Qualifications

  • Must have skill and experience in solving problems, including a curiosity for how things work and the tenacity to see solutions through to completion.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility when dealing with multiple demands and priorities.
  • Must have organizational skills to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field strongly preferred.
  • A keen interest in health-related simulation and a willingness for lifelong learning.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and prior simulation experience are desirable but not required;
  • Experience managing, operating, and supporting hardware and software applications in a networked computing environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with all technical operations of the simulation area.
  • Manage technology for each simulation, including administration of all aspects of AV recording.
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Coordinator and nursing faculty in planning and implementing simulation scenarios.
  • Maintain simulation equipment with the latest updates, including a monthly log. Keep records of warranty information, purchase, and expiration dates serial numbers, etc.
  • Recommend purchases, maintenance, upgrades and warranty options to preserve and repair simulation equipment and enhance the student simulation experience.
  • Utilize strong communication and collaborative skills to ensure teamwork and support for all nursing students, faculty and staff.
  • Work to safeguard electronic data and programming, including protection from data loss related to equipment failure as well as unauthorized use of the nursing department documents or protected student/participant information
  • Participate as needed in career fairs, educational forums, open houses, tours, and appropriate outreach activities to promote the Averett School of Nursing, some of which may be after daily hours.
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in existing and emerging simulation technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
