Please join the Facilities Department in welcoming their new staff to campus:

Joanie Forth was previously employed as an independent contractor with more than 40 years of experience in painting, decorating, wallpapering and custom sewing.

Mitch Gunn was previously employed with the city of Danville for more than 10 years as well as being an independent contractor. He brings more than 35 years of expertise in carpentry, electrical and plumbing.

Rodney Harper is our new Mailroom Supervisor. He took over this position on October 1, 2014. Rodney is currently enrolled in the GPS program, working towards a degree in business administration.

The Facilities Department is elated with these new additions to our staff. As a reminder, when your department is considering facilities improvements please contact us to initiate bids, quotes, and work with your designee.

The GPS Program has also welcomed new staff members:

Pamela Harris joins us as a Senior Student Success Counselor in the GPS Program for the southern Virginia region. A former member of the Averett family, Pam is no stranger to Averett. She has extensive experience in financial aid, student accounts and overall adult education. In addition to overseeing student success for our GPS ground based students in southern Virginia, she will be working with a portion of our online student population. Welcome back to Averett, Pam!

Chazley Logan joins us as a Student Success Counselor in the central Virginia region. A native of Danville, she is very familiar with Averett University. Chazley resides in Richmond, and will be assisting our central Virginia ground based students and a portion of our GPS online students with student success. She has a background in student services and is passionate about working in higher education. Welcome, Chazley. We are excited to have you on the team!

Chris Ellis ’01 joins us a Student Success Counselor in the Tidewater region. He earned his master’s degree from Duke University in 2004. Chris now resides in the Tidewater area and is passionate about serving his alma mater. He has extensive experience in student services and a true passion for student success. We are excited to have Chris on board to support the ground based Tidewater students as well as our online GPS students. Welcome back home, Chris!

Erma Neveu is not new to Averett, but she has a new title – Military Site & Student Support Liaison. Erma continues to serve our students in northern Virginia at the Quantico Marine Base. She is an essential part of the service we provide to GPS Marine\’s and civilians at Quantico. Along with serving our students at Quantico, Erma assists in the support of our GPS online students, Thank you, Erma, for all you do!

Valerie Dosier is not new to Averett, but she is new to the team for Student Success as a Student Success Manager. Valerie is located in Central Virginia and has an extensive background in several positions charged with student retention, student success and degree completion. We are excited to have her leadership among the SSC team! Valerie will also be working with students in the RN to BSN program. Congratulations, Valerie, in your new role!

Samoilenko Publishes Chapter

Dr. Sergey Samoilenko, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems, has co-authored a chapter in a book with Kweku-Muata Osei-Bryson. The title of the book is “Knowledge Discovery Process and Methods to Enhance Organizational Performance” and their chapter is “Determining Sources of Relative Inefficiency in Heterogeneous Samples Using Multiple Data Analytic Techniques.” For more information about the book, or to purchase it, click here.

Changes in the Business Office

List Stewart has assumed the title of Controller as of March 1. Lisa has done an exceptional job of filling the role of interim Controller since the departure of Andy Fitch.

Beginning March 15, Sandy Isom will assume the duties as Averett’s Assistant Controller. No stranger to Averett, Sandy has been on the Main Campus working as Synergis Education’s Director of Finance for the last few years.

Trish Coleman, Assistant to the CFO, will be leaving the university March 13 to accept a position with General Dynamics.

Spring Vacation Riding Camp

Averett’s Equestrian Program will be holding a riding camp for students ages 7-15 at the Equestrian Center Wednesday, April 8 through Saturday, April 11. Campers will ride twice each day and participate in the CT Show being held on April 11.

This camp will be held instead of the summer camp held for the last two years. Space will be limited, so interested parents or campers should contact Cricket Morris at the Equestrian Center as soon as possible to reserve their spot! Please call (434) 770-2941 or email Cricket at [email protected].
