University Recognizes Educators of the Year

2015-16Teacher_AppreciationAverett University is proud to announce that 23 of its graduates were named “Educator of the Year” for 2015-16 in their respective school systems. Alumni from seven different school systems were recognized May 5 during a special event at the home of Averett President Dr. Tiffany Franks.

Teachers from the Danville Public Schools who were recognized as Educator of the Year for their respective schools were Jessica L. Schiel ’13 from O.T. Bonner Middle School; Lisa M. Shorter ’95 from Northside Preschool; Robin A. Adams ’85 from E.A. Gibson Elementary School; Amanda J. McKinney ’08 from Forest Hills Elementary School; Judith M. Brown ’86 from Woodberry Hills Elementary School; Joyce A. Culley ’95, ’01 from Galileo Magnet High School; and Kristen L. Walker ’02, ’05 from the Regional Alternative School.

Four alumni who teach in Halifax County were recognized including Mary S. Stevens ’06 from Clays Mill Elementary School; Jennifer L. Conner ’04 from Cluster Springs Early Learning School; Marcia L. Crowder ’92 from Meadville Elementary School; and Allyn B. Motley ’97 from Halifax County High School.

Six graduates who teach in Henry County Public Schools were recognized including Celena M. Hairston ’03 from Laural Park Middle School; Ashley B. Adams ’05 from Rich Acres Elementary School; Tammy L. Doss ’90 from Campbell Court Elementary School; Debra B. Easley ’04 from Axton Elementary School; Elizabeth C. Green ’78, ’93 from Collinsville Primary School; and Susan C. Hatfield ’06 from John Redd Smith Elementary School.

Linda K. O’Neal ’95 from Albert Harris Elementary School in Martinsville was recognized as an Educator of the Year.

Those alumni from Pittsylvania County Public Schools who were recognized were Jennifer Gibson ’07 from Twin Springs Elementary School; Janice G. McCain ’75 from Dan River High School; and Sandi C. Rossman ’05, ’07 from Tunstall Middle School.

Ruth H. Robertson ’05, ’09 was recognized as an Educator of the Year for Williamsburg Elementary School in Rockingham County, N.C.

In addition, Donna E. Waymouth ’06 of Sacred Heart School in Danville was recognized as an Educator of the Year.
