Transfer Policy

Transfer students will be allowed to formally apply to the program before entering the University.  It is the student’s responsibility to contact the ATP Program Director and obtain the necessary forms/documents to complete the application process. Each student will be expected to complete the same requirements as the prospective Averett ATP students. After formal acceptance into the program, the transfer student will be allowed to enroll immediately in clinical and professional courses and to begin supervised clinical assignments. However, applications are only accepted in March of each year for August enrollment.  Any clinical work completed by the transfer student before acceptance into Averett’s ATP will not be accepted towards course substitution in regards to clinical rotations.  The following information will need to be submitted by the student:

  • an official transcript from previous universities.  Transcript needs to include all of the athletic training courses that have been taken.
  • a syllabus from the semester that each athletic training course was taken.
  • a list of your clinical rotations.
  • recommendations from your Program Director, Clinical Education Coordinator, and at least one Clinical Preceptor.
  • documentation of performance in clinical rotations.  For example, mock clinical evaluations or clinical evaluations from clinical preceptors.
  • a personal statement addressing the following questions:
    • An explanation of why you are transferring
    • A description of the athletic training profession and why you chose this major
    • What you expect to accomplish as an athletic training student
    • What outside activities your participate in and how you plan to manage your time between these activities, academics, and clinical hour requirements
    • Your future career goals.

The student must meet the 2.75 GPA requirement and have a C or better in all previously taken athletic training courses.  Once the student gains admission to Averett, the student will also have to complete the application process for the athletic training program.

Averett University is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program has chosen to voluntarily withdraw its Athletic Training accreditation effective May 31, 2021. The program is currently on probation by CAATE, and will remain as such with continued accreditation until the withdrawal is effective and the program is closed.
