Athletic Training Program Admissions Requirements

Students who wish to pursue the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training must ensure that they meet the university’s general admissions requirements for first-time freshmen or transfer students. Click here for an overview of our general requirements for admission.

Admission to the AT Program is competitive. The number of applicants accepted and enrolled into the Athletic Training Program is limited and is based on the applicant’s predicted ability to succeed in the strenuous professional program.

Depending on the number of applicants, it is possible that not all those who meet the minimum requirements will be admitted. Consistent with university policy, the ATP offers admission to applicants whose credentials present the best qualifications among those who meet the minimum requirements.

Students who meet the minimum requirements may apply for acceptance to the ATP in the spring of their freshmen year. The next application deadline is Friday, March 15, 2019 at 5 pm. Transfer students should contact the Program Director as soon as possible prior to transferring for information on the application process. An application can be obtained from the Program Director. The Program Director must receive all materials no later than March 15th or the previous weekday if March 15th falls on the weekend or a holiday.  Students who are formally accepted into the program will be notified by email after graduation and will begin coursework in the major in the fall semester of the sophomore year.

Applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements as well as submit a completed Athletic Training Program application packet.

Averett University is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program has chosen to voluntarily withdraw its Athletic Training accreditation effective May 31, 2021. The program is currently on probation by CAATE, and will remain as such with continued accreditation until the withdrawal program is closed.
