COMMUNICATION STUDIES(JOURNALISM)

David E. Hoffman
Susan L. Huckstep

This major provides students with a solid foundation in both communication studies and journalism –- giving them the skills and theoretical background they need to adapt to whatever the future of media holds. Students complete 21-hours of core requirements and then elect to concentrate in either journalism or communication studies. Writing, speaking and critical thinking are stressed across the curriculum. Students gain an understanding of not just how to communicate, but what works, what doesn’t and why. Our graduates find jobs in newspaper/digital publishing, television, radio, public relations and in other fields requiring strong communication skills. Students are also prepared to enter graduate school.

Students must attain at least a 2.5 grade point average in the major in order to graduate.
