Spring Orientation

Sunday, January 7th

10:00 am – 12:00 pm:  Multi-Purpose Room Student Center (2nd floor)

Residential Student Check-In

Students living on campus can move in on Sunday.  You will be checking in with the Residence Life Office in the Multi-purpose Room of the Student Center.  Once you arrive, you will receive your keys as well as a schedule for Orientation activities that begin on Monday. Don’t forget to get your ID made once you arrive. You will need it to access the building(s) after dark.

*If you happen to arrive after noon on the 7th, please contact the Res Life on call number at 434.203.7245 when you reach campus.

5:30 pm: Dining Hall (Student Center 3rd Floor)

Meal Plans Start. If you have a meal plan please use your Averett ID to swipe in at the Café. If not the café also accepts debit, credit, and cash.

Monday, January 8th

8:30 am-9:30 am:  Multipurpose Room (Student Center 2nd Floor )

Check-In/ Student Services Fair

All new students should plan to check-in for the day during this time.  You will get your schedule for the day, meet some of our current students, and begin to get some of the questions you have answered.  This is also your chance to take care of business.  You can get your student ID, meet with Financial Aid, and get information from a variety of campus resources.

9:45 am – 10:00 am:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

Welcome & Opening Session

Join your fellow classmates in meeting the Dean of Students and orientation staff as they share insights on the hallmarks of the Averett experience.

10:00 am – 10:30 am:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

Student Success

What should you expect as an AU student? This session will provide important information from student success professionals to help you be better prepared for the first day of classes and help you on the path toward success. You will also do a walk-through of facility with student success and the orientation staff.

10:45am -11:45 pm: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

The Averett Way: Expectations, Responsibility and Involvement

Lesley Villarose, Dean of Students and some members of the Student Life staff will fill you in on what to expect over the coming months at AU. Parking, meal plans, and policies. This session will cover some of the basics that you need to know during your time at Averett University.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm:  Dining Hall (Student Center 3rd Floor)


Take a break, kick back, and enjoy the great food on campus. If you have purchased a meal plan please use your Averett ID to swipe in at the café. If not, the café does accept cash, credit, and debit. 

12:00 pm-1:00 pm:   Carrington Conference Room (4th Floor Student Center)

International Information Session that will cover the following topics:

  • On Campus Employment/Social Security Cards
  • Relationships: Cultural Differences
  • Cell-Phones
  • How to obtain a driver’s license
  • US Laws
  • How US Colleges Function

1:00 pm- 1:30 pm (International Students only) Visa Regulations

It is extremely important to know about F-1 student visa regulations. Topics include: full-time status, working on and off campus, and traveling and re-entering the United States. Please bring your I-20, visa, and passport to this session.

1:30 pm – 4:00 pm:  Various Locations

Academic Advising Appointments

The final piece of the day!  As you check-in you will be assigned an appointment during the afternoon with your advisor.  This is an opportunity for you to sit down with your advisor, go through your plan of study, and get your classes for the spring lined up.

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Tour of Campus/Auxiliary tours

Sign up at check-in or check with the orientation staff.

5:00pm – 7:00pm: Dining Hall (Student Center 3rd Floor)

7:00 pm: Movie Night

Tuesday, January 9th

This is your chance to purchase books, get settled, meet other new students, and take care of any unfinished business. If questions come up during the day, the 4th Floor of the Student Center is a good place to start.
