Student Health Insurance Plan

Health insurance enrollment is required for all full-time traditional students (12 credit hours or more) and ABSN students. To ensure compliance, Averett University students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan each year while in attendance. If you are currently insured, you can waive enrollment and the premium charge by completing the online waiver process.  You will have to provide proof of alternate comparable coverage. Not all plans provide comparable coverage, such as out-of-state Medicaid plans, certain HMOs and managed care plans. Be sure to check with your insurance company before waiving coverage. Please note that non U.S.-based International coverage and short term coverage are not considered comparable insurance coverage.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact RCM&D at 1-800-346-4075 extension 1452 or by email at [email protected].

International Student Health Insurance

As an International Student you have the same option.   Full-time traditional students (12 credit hours or more) and ABSN students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan each year while in attendance at Averett University. If you’re currently insured, you can waive enrollment and the premium charge by completing the online waiver process.  You will have to provide proof of alternate comparable coverage.  If you do choose to waive the Averett University student health insurance plan you are assuming all financial responsibility while you are attending Averett University.

Please note that Averett University requires your health insurance to meet the following minimum standards:

  • Insure you for the period of time you are attending Averett University;
  • Provide a minimum benefit of $100,000 (US Dollars) for any expenses related to an injury or illness;
  • Provide a minimum benefit of $25,000 (US Dollars) for any expenses related to the repatriation of mortal remains;
  • Provide a minimum benefit of $50,000 (US Dollars) for any expenses related to medical evacuation; and
  • Your policy cannot require you to pay more than 25% of the medical expenses for any injury or illness.

If you need assistance determining if your insurance policy meets these minimum standards please email a copy of your policy (must be in English) to [email protected].

Mandatory Accident Insurance

Averett University is concerned about the safety and well-being of our students.  Unexpected medical expenses may threaten your ability to complete your education should you suffer an injury.  For this reason, Averett University requires all traditional full-time students (12 credit hours or more) to purchase the accident policy offered through the contracted insurance company.  We understand students will have health insurance coverage, but most insurance policies have limitations that require the insured to pay for some out-of-pocket expenses.  The accident insurance plan is designed to help pay expenses resulting from an accident, up to $10,000 per accident.  Cost of the plan will be billed to the students account.

If you have any questions, concerns or assistance with claim process, please contact RCM&D at 1-800-346-4075 extension 1452 or by email at [email protected].
