Steps to Apply for Financial Aid

To be given the greatest consideration for financial aid programs, you should complete the FAFSA each year by March 1st, which is the Averett’s priority date. Some programs are first-come, first-served, so be sure to apply early to avoid losing out on potential funding opportunities. You can renew your FAFSA online at studentaid.gov.

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Averett’s school code is 003702. FAFSA online application
  • Approximately 3-5 business days after you complete the FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) with an estimate of your expected family contribution. Review it for accuracy, and correct only items that were inaccurate as of the date you signed your FAFSA. Verify that Averett’s name and school code (003702) are listed on your SAR. If Averett is not listed on your SAR, call the Federal Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243 or correct your FAFSA and add Averett’s code.
  • Once Averett receives your SAR from the Federal Processing Center, we will review your information and determine the amount of aid for which you are eligible. Averett will mail you a financial aid award notification. Averett will Email you instructions on how to accept, reduce, or decline your award online using NetPartners.
  • New students receiving federal loans must complete an online entrance counseling session before receiving their first disbursement. Parent PLUS Loan borrowers must complete PLUS Request from and return to Averett’s Office of Financial Aid. Contact us for more information. Title IV, HEA loans will be submitted to NSLDS and information about them will be accessible by authorized agencies, lenders, and institutions.
  • Most financial awards will be credited to your student account approximately one week after the start of the semester. Some private loans and outside scholarships require your signature before funds can be released. All aid is term-specific and will not pay any past due balance from previous terms at Averett.
