Year-End Giving Tips

Remember: Only gifts made by December 31 can help reduce the amount of taxes you owe next April. Please keep the following in mind and consult your tax advisor for specific details. Thank you for your support and have a safe and happy holiday season!

Make sure your gift is dated and postmarked no later than December 31 of the current year. When giving online, submit your gift no later than 11:59 (EST) on December 31 of the current year.. While you should consult a CPA or tax preparer to determine the tax consequences of your donation, the date you deliver or mail your donation is generally recognized as the gift date for tax purposes.

Holiday Hours:

Averett University will observe a holiday schedule from Wednesday, December 21 – Monday, January 2. The Institutional Advancement offices will be open during the holiday season with limited hours.

The Institutional Advancement office (Alumni Hall, 174 Mt. View Ave.) will be open:

  • Tuesday, December 27 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Friday, December 30 from 12 noon – 4 p.m.

General tips:

Averett University is a 501c3 not for profit organization. Donations to Averett University are tax deductible. Always consult your tax advisor.

Give online at at www.averett.edu/give. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Electronic Fund Transfer directly from your checking account.


Checks:

The date you deliver or mail (post mark) your donation is generally recognized as the gift date for tax purposes. Please note the date on the actual check or money order is not recognized by the IRS as proof of your intent to give on a particular date. Gift receipts for gifts made from December 20 – January 14 will reflect the processing date of the gift, not necessarily the date the gift was made.  Gifts by check or money order may be:
