Title IX at Averett
During the spring of 2024, the United States Department of Education published Title IX regulations that were due to go into effect on August 1, 2024. Virginia and other states filed lawsuits challenging the regulations. While the lawsuits proceed through the courts, the Department of Education cannot enforce the 2024 regulations in Virginia and approximately 25 other states. In the states where an injunction is in effect, the Department of Education will continue enforcing the 2020 Title IX regulations. Averett’s policies and procedures reflect the requirements of the 2020 regulations, and Averett will remain in compliance with the 2020 Title IX regulations unless or until the 2024 regulations go into effect in Virginia. Any changes to the Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures will be published on this webpage.
In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Averett University does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of sex in any of its educational programs or activities, including against any employee, applicant for employment, student, or applicant for admission. Averett is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all community members. Members of the Averett community have the right to be free from all forms of sexual harassment and misconduct, and all members of the Averett community are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the University’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy.
