Wrapping Up the Stop Stress Now! Series
The last event of the Stop Stress Now! series will be held today, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the MPR. Dr. Lynise Anderson will be speaking about tools for managing stress and building resilience. Please feel free to join us!
Academic Support Updates
The last day for drop-in consultations in the Writing Center is today, April 24. The last day for regularly scheduled tutoring sessions and open group tutoring opportunities is also today. Should a student need assistance after today, please email [email protected] with your request, and the student will most likely be scheduled with a professional tutor/consultant for assistance.
Aflac Representative
A representative from Aflac will be on campus tomorrow, April 25, should you be interested in meeting with them to discuss available options. Riverview campus 8:30 – 10 a.m. and 3 – 4:30 p.m. and Main Campus in cafeteria between 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CLICK HERE to see the full flyer.
Late Night Breakfast
As the semester is nearing an end, the Office of Student Engagement is working to organize the annual late night breakfast. Late night breakfast occurs on Reading Day, tomorrow, April 25, and will begin at 9:30 p.m. in the Student Center Café.
We are still searching for staff and faculty willing to participate and help serve breakfast for the students as they prepare for exams. Please email [email protected] if you are available and willing to help. The theme this semester will be Beach Time!
Growth Mindset
We want to hear about what awesome things your department is doing to promote growth mindset, our school’s designated QEP. Day to Engage Around the World: Autism 5K
The CCECC and Turning Points Autism Center are sponsoring Averett’s “Day to Engage Around the World” Light the Path for Autism 5K Walk on Saturday, April 27, at North Campus. We are looking for volunteers to help make the walk a success; please register to volunteer through campusengage.org. For those who want to walk/run, registration is $25 (includes 5K T-shirt); under 16 is free. If you have questions, please contact April Love at [email protected].

Campus Store Summer Hours
The Campus Store hours will be changing for the summer. From May 6 to August 11, the Campus Store will be open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Friday’s it is open 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Your Campus Store will have extended hours on orientation Fridays. Brigid Belko Gorton Well Wishes

Student Life Employee Highlights
Lesley Villarose, dean of students, has been appointed to the Executive Council of the Virginia Higher Education Substance Use Advisory Committee (VHESUAC). This committee will explore statewide strategic planning and data collection. It will also help institutions of higher learning provide networking and training resources and materials as well as contribute to an annual report on activities to the Governor and the General Assembly.
Kyle Patterson, director of Housing and Residence Life, is serving on the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO) Governing Council as the state representative for Virginia. At this year’s conference, he voted on behalf of the state on amendments or initiatives brought forth to the Governing Council from the executive board and also reported on the events and initiatives occurring in the state of Virginia.
Jawoin Williams, assistant director of Housing and Residence Life, received the Outstanding New Professional Award at this year’s Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO) Conference.
Tammy C. Jackson, operations coordinator for Student Life, is now the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) for the University. She will handle paperwork and reporting requirements for our international students and answer questions regarding international student policies for faculty and staff. She has also been sworn in as a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Averett 101: From the Eyes of Freshmen
During every Averett 101 class each fall semester, the students go to the president’s house and enjoy a dinner with Dr. Franks and her husband, Joe. During that time, Dr. Franks asks the students what they love about Averett and if they have any concerns.
