ballance_dennisWe Bid Farewell to Dennis Ballance

Dennis Ballance ’15, Simulation Technologist, has accepted a position with Gloster Furniture in South Boston. His last day with Averett is September 25.

We’re delighted for this professional opportunity for Dennis – definitely a shorter drive, and perhaps a chance to utilize his new degree to its fullest. He has been with the nursing program a long time, and we’re sorry to see him go.

Please take time to congratulate Dennis on this exciting opportunity and to wish him well.

thank_youThank You to Our Volunteers!

The CCECC staff would like to thank all of the Averett faculty and staff who volunteered or donated during Week to Engage! In next week’s edition of Coffee Break, we will show you the impact this university had on our community during Week to Engage.

Did you volunteer and not receive a t-shirt? Just stop by the CCECC to give us your size, and we will try to get you one soon!

student_accoladesStudent Accolades

The Student Life Department began recognizing students who go the extra mile in whatever they are doing on campus last fall. Each week during Student Life Staff meetings, staff members nominate students they want to recognize for their dedication to AU. Students are notified about the nomination and their chance to win a $50 Visa Gift Card. At the end of the semester, all of the names of those nominated are put into a bowl and the name of one lucky student is selected. This is the department’s way of letting the students know they appreciate all they do.

This week we would like to recognize Hannah Glover, Michael Williams, Jake Comer and Jessie Gomes.

We have nearly a dozen very enthusiastic band students ready to start playing in the inaugural Averett University Cougar Band! We are looking for additional players to help them out. We welcome any faculty and staff who play instruments to join us. This semester is mostly a building and rehearsing stage, and we aim to begin public performances late this semester or early next semester. Rehearsals will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings.

If you are interested in joining this adventure, please contact Janet Phillips at 434-791-5715 with your name, contact info, and instrument. If you need an instrument to be able to participate, let her know that as well.
