Incoming Student Housing 2023-24

Residency Requirement

Averett University mandates a three-year on-campus residency for all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, unless they have received an exemption from the Department of Housing and Residence Life. To live off-campus, students must submit a request through the Off Campus Housing Waiver Form, which must undergo a comprehensive approval process by the Housing and Residence Life office.

The deadlines for submitting the Off Campus Housing Waiver Form are as follows:

  • July 1st for the Fall Semester
  • December 1st for the Spring Semester

The Selection Process

All incoming students have the chance to take part in the housing selection process, which is determined by the date of their admissions deposit and the completion of the online housing application. First-year students are encouraged to choose their preferred accommodation through an online room selection process. However, it’s important to note that specific hall assignments and roommate requests cannot always be guaranteed, as they depend on availability and mutual agreements.

Students who have not selected their housing by August 1st may be automatically assigned to a space and billed for housing starting on August 1st.

  1. Access the Housing Portal:
    • To access your account, use your Averett email username (without the @aumail.averett.edu) and password.
    • If you can’t recall your Averett email username or password, please contact the IT Helpdesk during their office hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST, at 434-791-5720.
  2. Update Your Personal Info:
    • After logging into the Housing Portal, just go through the Personal Information tabs.
    • Don’t forget to jazz up your Roommate Profile; other students might be looking for cool roommates like you!
  3. Complete the New Student Housing App:
    • Fill out the New Student Housing Application and pick your meal plan when it comes up.
  4. Choose Your Roomies:
    • Teamwork is key! You and your roomie must both agree.
    • It’s your job to find your roommates before the room selection date.
    • Both individuals must have finished the application prior to appearing on the housing portal.
  5. Time to Select Your Room:
    • One person from your group will select the room you both want. Make sure you both agree on the hall and room. Happy roommates are the best roommates!

Important Notes

  • If your first-choice room isn’t available, don’t worry; you can join the waitlist for your preferred space via the Housing Portal. Available spaces can change over time.
  • We’ve got something exciting called “Room Change Week” before the last day to add/drop classes. It’s your chance to explore different housing options if needed.
  • Please be aware that the room assignments you make during housing selection are subject to change based on the campus’s needs and occupancy requirements.
  • The Department of Housing and Residence Life is always working to make the best use of housing spaces, even in apartments. This might mean moving students or assigning new roommates to create the most efficient living arrangements.
  • Once you’ve made your housing selection, you’re locked in for both the fall and spring academic terms. Your chosen space awaits you for a great experience!
