Telehealth Information

Averett University Counseling Services provides counseling via telemental health (online) or in person appointments. Students who are interested in our services can email [email protected] to learn more about appointment options. Telemental health appointments are convenient and can be a good option for students who may not be feeling well but don’t want to miss their appointment or if the student has transportation issues, inclement weather concerns, etc. Students do not need to be on campus receive telemental health services, however, they DO NEED TO BE IN VIRGINIA or NORTH CAROLINA due to licensure requirements.

Tips for Successful Telemental health Appointments:

  • Choose a confidential location, away from others who can see or hear you. Do not have a telemental health session in a public place.
  • Non-verbal communication is important for the counseling process! Seek an environment with good lighting where your clinician can see you well.
  • Eliminate or reduce distractions and plan for unplanned disruptions (e.g. a phone call, a pet, someone interrupts or walks in).
  • Please dress appropriately and do not smoke or use other drugs or alcohol during session.
  • Identified a back-up method (i.e., the phone) for your appointment in the event your technology is faulty.
  • Ensure that your location matches the address given on the Telemental Health Informed Consent Form.
