Lolita Martin is a Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) student from Danville, Va. She was born in Washington, D.C., attended school in Pittsylvania County and the city of Danville, and has been a resident of Danville, Va., all of her adult life. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She is expected to graduate in December of 2020.

What is an average day like for you in the GPS Program?

“I work a full-time job. I am a mother, wife, grandmother and now, a full-time Averett student. My plate is very full right now and I find myself up early mornings and staying up late nights to make sure I achieve my goal to graduate with honors.”

Why did you decide to continue your education at Averett?

“I chose Averett to pursue my degree because of its impeccable worldwide reputation and its reputation in the city I reside.”

How do you believe Averett will help you with your degree?

“Obtaining my degree in business administration will open up so many doors for me that were previously closed due to my lack of education and experience in the human resources field.”

What do you like best about the University?

“I love the reputation that Averett University has in our community and I also love the friendly and professional staff. Whenever I have a question or concern about anything related to my progress, grades, financial aid, etc., they always try to find an answer for me. If they don’t have an answer, they will point me to the right people who can address my concerns.”

Why did you choose your path of study?

“I obtained my associate’s degree in 2006, and about four years ago, I had an unexpected career change that landed me in a profession where I had zero experience. By obtaining my bachelor’s degree and getting the experience in my newfound profession, I will have a leg up on the competition when seeking employment and on the job promotions.”
