Name: Amy Farinelli
Title: Program Coordinator of Danville/Pittsylvania County, VA and Caswell County, NC
Name of Organization: Dan River Basin Association

What is the address of your organization? 308 Craghead St., Suite 104, Danville, VA 24541

What does your organization do? The Dan River Basin Association preserves and promotes the natural and cultural resources of the Dan River Basin through stewardship, recreation and education.

What is your favorite part about your job? The best part of my job is working with our volunteers. DRBA volunteers are very dedicated and passionate about protecting our natural resources, and their enthusiasm and support reminds me every day of the impact we all can have in creating a better world.

Why are volunteers important to your organization? Without committed volunteers, many of our programs simply would not be possible due to limited staff and resources. Many volunteers become ambassadors for DRBA in their communities, promoting the environment in their everyday lives and spreading our message.

If you could tell our college students one thing, what would it be? Get involved both on and off campus, and explore fields that interest you by volunteering. Employers and graduate schools will like to see that you got involved, especially through volunteer work, and it will explain your worldview and expose you to new passions.

How can our community engage with your organization this month and in the future? This month, DRBA will be partnering with the CCECC on a colorful, eye-catching storm drain painting project at Averett. The community can also engage with DRBA in the future by adopting a storm drain, becoming a water quality monitor, or a DRBA educator.
