Admissions Requirements
Admissions to the Honors Program at Averett University depends upon a higher standard of academic achievement than general admissions.
First-time freshmen may be accepted into the Honors Program by meeting either of the following requirements:
- High School grade point average of 3.2 or better and a combined SAT score of 1100 (Critical Reading and Math) or better.
- High School grade point average of 3.0 or better, a combined SAT score of 1050 (Critical Reading and Math) or better, plus either a high school class rank in the top 15% of the graduating class, or completion of two Advanced Placement courses with test scores of 4 or better.
Sophomores and transfer juniors must meet three of the four criteria listed below to be admitted to the Honors Program.
- Minimum overall college grade point average of 3.2;
- Minimum grade point average of 3.4 in major;
- Faculty sponsorship;
- Completion of 6 hours Honors courses with grades of B or better.
Provisional Admission to the Honors Program
We may admit students to the Honors Program on a provisional basis if:
- They are pending completion of one of the above criteria
- They are transfer students with high grade point averages who have no previous Honors work
- Other unanticipated circumstances.
The Honors Committee will set terms for the provisional admission and must specify the time limit and action(s) required by the student for removing the provisional status.
