Governor’s Summit on Advancing Engagement in the Commonwealth at Averett University

October 6-7, 2016

Hosted by Virginia Governor and First Lady McAuliffe, Averett University, and the Virginia Engage Network

In an effort to continue the exciting conversation about expanding service year opportunities in the Commonwealth, the Summit will combine with the annual meeting of the Virginia Engage Network to focus on establishing and growing a myriad of opportunities for college and university students throughout Virginia.

Continuing the conversation from the previous summits at the College of William & Mary and James Madison University, as well as the signing of the Compact on National Service in Richmond, the Summit will allow presidents, chief engagement officers and their colleagues the opportunity to learn about and discuss opportunities for enhancing engagement at our institutions and throughout the Commonwealth.

There is no charge to attend the Summit.

If you are able to attend, please consider bringing members of your senior team — your chief academic officer, your chief student affairs officer, and/or your chief civic engagement officer to accompany you.

Attendees will:

Learn about opportunities articulated in the Compact on National Service, including creating service year experiences at individual Virginia colleges and universities

Have the opportunity to engage with presidents and colleagues from Virginia to discuss best practice related to service year and engagement efforts more generally

Participate in interactive sessions related to engagement at higher education institutions in the Commonwealth
