Graduate Finds Job

Kassia White ’15 is now working in Chatham at the Green Rock Correctional Facility. Kassia majored in Criminal Justice/Sociology and double minored in Business Administration and Equestrian Studies. She is originally from Lebanon, N.H.

Graduate Heads to Ole Miss

Zach Buckner ’15 has been accepted into The University of Mississippi Master’s of Criminal Justice Program where he will be studying Homeland Security. Zach was a Criminal Justice/Sociology major with a Biology minor. He played football, was a football manager, and was also involved with FCA and Theta Chi during his time at Averett. He is originally from Florida.

Recent Graduates Share Their Plans

Amanda Anderson ’15 a triple major in Biology: Biomedical Science, Psychology: Biological Science and Psychology: Clinical and Counseling is heading to Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Ariz. to pursue a doctoral degree. Amanda is originally from Illinois.

Derek Helsley ’15 who majored in Biology: Biomedical Science and minored in Physical Education and Chemistry will be attending Liberty University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine to pursue a doctoral degree. Derek is originally from Middleton. He is also recently engaged to fellow 2015 graduate Heather Woodward.

Heather Woodward ’15 majored in Biology: Biomedical Science and minored in Chemistry and Psychology. Heather will be in Blacksburg to attend The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (VCOM) post-baccalaureate program in hopes of strengthening her candidacy for next year. VCOM has the highest rated and most competitive post baccalaureate program in the nation. She is from Front Royal.

Natalie Wilson ’15 also majored in Biology: Biomedical Science and minored in Chemistry. She will be heading to Alabama to attend Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Natalie is from Chatham.

Shayna Keen, December 2014 graduate, will be pursuing a Master’s in Occupational Therapy at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at Mary Baldwin. Shayna was a double major in Biology: Biomedical Science and Athletic Training. She also played volleyball at Averett. She is from Blairs.

Sarah Chapman, our new Women’s Soccer Head Coach. Chapman most recently served as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Stony Brook University after enjoying a stellar playing career at the University of Florida. To learn more about Sarah, visit the athletics website by clicking here.

Kirkland Brown ’14 and Benjamin Harris ’15 who are now assistant coaches with the football staff. During his time at Averett, Kirkland was a member of the Honor’s Program, an orientation leader, team captain, and won numerous awards including All-Conference Honors, Rookie of the Year, All-Sportsmanship Award, and more. He majored in Sports Management and is originally from Lexington, N.C.

Ben majored in Physical Education and was a member of the football team as well. During his time at Averett he volunteered, received All-Conference Honors and was involved with the CCECC. Ben is originally from Warrenton.

campusnewsFundraiser a Success for Averett Athletics

Not even a quick thunderstorm that rolled through the fairways of Goodyear Golf Club could put a damper on the 2015 Cougar Golf Classic, the annual fundraiser for the Department of Athletics. The tournament, which featured 23 teams of four, was a smashing success according to Director of Athletics Meg Stevens. To read more about the event, please click here.

Reserve Your Averett Gear

The Athletics Department has begun pre-selling items for the 2015-2016 season. Alumni, family and fans can pre-order golf umbrellas, chairs, tailgate tents and stadium cushions to get a head start in preparations for the upcoming season. Averett car flags and university flags can be purchased as well. There are a limited amount of items, and orders will be placed once payment is received.
