Meet Our Faculty

Prepare for a career in computing or lay the foundation for a graduate Computer Science degree with Averett University’s Bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems.  Our CS and CIS degree programs are available as majors or minors, and teach fundamental skills in:

  • Computing theory
  • Computer programming and programming languages
  • Systems design and administration
  • Database design and administration
  • Computer project management
  • Software programming

Working closely with instructors in small classes, students complete hands-on projects, putting theoretical concepts to work while also developing their project management and professional communication capacities.

Graduates of these programs will be prepared to pursue computer-related work in the public or private sector. Our Computer Science Bachelor’s degrees also prepare graduates for Master’s-level work in Computer Science, management of information systems, business, and other related fields.

Program Descriptions – Computer Science  & Computer Information Systems Degrees

Bachelor of Science – Computer Science
The BSCS at Averett teaches fundamental programming, web development, and simulation skills, underpinned by statistics and calculus courses designed to teach quantitative reasoning. Data structures, architectures, and machine language are also covered.

Bachelor of Science – Computer Information Systems
Students completing the Bachelor of Science program in CIS are positioned to make a valuable impact on the information-based and data-rich world of business and technology. CIS majors study the disciplines of business and information technology to learn how to analyze, design, develop, implement and manage computer-based solutions allowing organizations to improve, remain competitive, and obtain a sustainable competitive advantage in the globalized world.   The CIS curriculum is grounded in the fundamentals of business, decision making, current and emerging computing technologies.”
